Theon sat across from me, a glass of bourbon in his hands, with a genuine smile lighting up his face with a warmth that reached his eyes.

As the sun started to set, casting a warm glow over the azure waters of the Aegean Sea, his chocolate waves caught the light in subtle golden hues that added a touch of warmth to his complexion.

Sunlight played along his bronzed skin, accentuating the contours of his jawline. Dressed in the simplicity of a crisp white shirt and linen trousers, he screamed a casual elegance that spoke volumes.

Guilt coiled in my stomach. He had made an effort, and it was wasted on me.

Why couldn’t I be attracted to him instead? Theon was handsome, charming, and uncomplicated. Basically, he was everything I could want. Instead, I was strung out over a guy who the word complicated was invented for. For all I knew, this could all be just one big game to Orion. I could just be a piece of forbidden fruit he was too tempted by.

I hadn’t seen him date even once over the last month. Granted, I didn’t want to see him date, but my gut told me Orion was a for-the-night-only kind of guy and I refused to be another name on a list for him. What if we crossed that line and he lost interest? It was hardly like Orion was begging to be tied down.

Was I prepared to risk the chance of getting hurt?

Theon brought me to the Canaves Lounge, a ridiculously overpriced bar on the coastal front that had become an A-list favorite since its opening.

And it was easy to see why.

The bar itself exuded a relaxed yet chic vibe, with whitewashed walls adorned with vibrant bougainvillea and rustic wooden furniture scattered throughout. Soft lanterns hung from the ceiling, casting a soft, romantic light over the space.

The tables overlooked the sea, creating the perfect spot to soak in the beauty of our surroundings. Despite the exclusivity of the establishment, the atmosphere was laid-back and carefree, with other couples and groups of friends chatting and laughing around us.

It was the perfect first date venue, and if circumstances were different, I would have loved every minute of it, but I couldn’t shake the pang of guilt for leading him on, for wasting his time while Orion’s presence lingered in my mind like an elusive ghost.

It didn’t help that he refused to let me put on any underwear and the reminder of him was still loitering between my thighs.

Which is exactly what he wants, dammit.

“So how did you meet Avery?” Theon asked, refocusing my attention on him. Kind of. It’s then that I noticed his chair seems to have shuffled much closer to mine.

If you let him touch you, I’ll crack his fucking skull.

“I met her when she came over to visit Orion,” I told him, leaning back to put some distance between us. “I haven’t had a chance to speak to Jonah much though.”

Jonah pulled a disappearing act most of the trip so far, often walking off to take business calls and check his emails on his laptop.
